Besides those injured and tired, Milan has a great certainty in Yokohama: Alessandro Nesta. The central defender tells Controcampo exclusively about his new World Cup challenge.

What are the major diffrences compared to your previous experience in Japan, four years ago?

‘‘Today we are certainly better, we are following a program that will help us recover from jet-lag and tiredness. And we have reduced 80% of the distances from the hotel to the training filed.
We don’t have to spend an hour on the bus to go training. In short, all goes great.’‘

The first game will presumably be against the Japaness team Urawea Red Diamonds. Have you already studied their forwards?

‘‘a little, but not much. First we need to see how they play against the Iranian team Sepahan. We have seen their game against Waitakere, and they seemd to be an so-so team. We weill see if they manage to trouble the Japanease.’‘

In baca there is Martin Parlermo who is not new at all.

‘‘He is a great forward and Boca is a great team. A tipical Argentinian team that knows how to challenge their opponents. It won’t be easy to beat them. It has been months that it’s said that ‘this is going to be the most important game of the year. We know it and we have been preparing for it.’‘

This is your 6th year in Milan. Any difference compared to the past?

‘‘The team has more experences. Of course, some years passed, but in cases like this esperience counts a lot and we have it. ‘’

There are 20 players that have played at least one WorldCup. The only starters that has not played is Ambrosini. What does this mean?

‘‘It means that we know how to play games of a certain level. We are all very experienced, unlikely to make mistakes.’‘

You are in a great form and many people think that you have done right leaving the Nazionale.

‘‘Every time I see my ex-companions play, I feel bad but this way I can rest every now and then and keep myself in a little better form. I hope in this way I could manage to play a couple of more years.’‘

Have you ever thought about post-Maldini?

‘‘No, not yet. Without Paolo, it well be strange. He is a true leader. Like me, he doesn’t like to talk much and for this reason, when he says something, everyone follows. Those who talk a lot will hardly be heard in the end.’‘

Quali sono le maggiori differenze rispetto alla tua precedente esperienza giapponese di quattro anni fa?

‘‘Oggi stiamo sicuramente meglio, stiamo seguendo un programma che ci permetterà di smaltire meglio il fuso orario e la stanchezza. Poi abbiamo ridotto dell’80% gli spostamenti dall’albergo al campo d’allenamento. Non dobbiamo più fare un’ora di pullman per andare ad allenarci. Insomma, tutto procede benissimo’‘

La prima partita sarà presumibilmente contro i giapponesi dell’Urawea Red Diamonds. Hai già studiato i loro attaccanti?

‘‘Qualcosina, ma non più di tanto. Prima bisogna vedere cosa faranno contro gli iraniani del Sepahan. Abbiamo seguto la loro partita contro i Waitakere, mi sono sembrati una squadra un po’ così così. Vedremo se riusciranno ad impensierire i giapponesi’‘.

Nel Boca gioca Martin Palermo che non è certo da scoprire…

‘‘E’ un bravo attaccante così come è una buona squadra il Boca. La tipica squadra argentina, che sa speculare sull’avversario. Non sarà facile batterli. Sono mesi che dicono ‘sarà la partita più importante dell’anno’. Noi lo sappiamo e ci faremo trovare preparati’‘

E’ il tuo 6° anno di Milan. Differenze rispetto a quelli passati?

‘‘E’ una squadra sempre più esperta. Certo, gli anni passano, ma in questi casi l’esperienza conta molto e noi ce l’abbiamo’‘

Ci sono 20 giocatori in rosa che hanno disputato almeno un mondiale. Della formazione titolare solo Ambrosini non l’ha giocato. Cosa vuol dire?

‘‘Vuol dire che sappiamo come si giocano partite di un certo livello. Siamo tutti molto navigati, difficilmente sbagliamo questi impegni’‘

Sei in grande forma, in molti pensano che tu abbia fatto bene a lasciare la Nazionale.

‘‘Ogni volta che vedo giocare i miei ex compagni sto male, però così posso riposare ogni tanto e essere un po’ più in forma. Magari così riuscirò a giocare un paio di anni in più’‘

Ha mai pensato al dopo Maldini?

‘‘No, non ancora. Senza Paolo sarà strano. Lui è un vero leader. Come me ama parlare poco e proprio per questo quando dice qualcosa tutti lo seguiamo. Chi parla tanto, alla fine non viene quasi mai ascoltato’‘.
