Injury update

There is good news today: Nesta trained with the team for the whole session. gazzetta says he is likely to be, at least, on the bench for the game against Sampdoria this midweek.

Nesta, Kaka and Seedorf interview on UEFA

One week after the defeat to Arsenal, UEFA interviews them; and I only post the part with Nesta

‘Consolidation’

“Since I’ve been here we haven’t gone out of the Champions League so early,” Alessandro Nesta told uefa.com. The centre-back, 32 next week, joined Milan in 2002 and has played in three finals since then. He will not be adding to that tally this year following the loss to Arsenal FC. “We’re sorry about that but we came up against a very strong opponent. Now we have to start a period of consolidation. Some players will be retiring soon because of their age and new players will have to be brought in.”

English dominance

Manchester United FC, Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC join Arsenal in the last eight. It is a sure indication, according to Brazilian midfielder Kaká, of the power of the Premier League. “I think they are the best right now, not only for what they have done this season but also for their results in recent years,” he told uefa.com. Nesta concurs and backs an English side to lift the trophy in Moscow on 21 May. “I think it could be one of the English teams, maybe Arsenal will go close,” he said. “If I have to pick one, however, I would say Manchester. I think they could do it this year.”

Adebayor praise

Nesta, who retired from international football last year, went head-to-head with Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor and was impressed with what he saw. “He’s one of the best players around right now. He has got great physique, good technique, is good in the air and is also very fast. I think he’s a complete striker. Arsenal have a young team full of running and desire who made life difficult for us, particularly because we’re not at our best at the moment.”

Roma chances

AS Roma are Italy’s only representatives in the last eight, but according to Nesta, a former S.S. Lazio player, Luciano Spalletti’s team lack the necessary experience to go all the way. “They’re doing very well and have a good chance of progressing, but at a certain point I think experience in this competition will become very important,” he said.

Pirlo and De Rossi interview on RomaChannel

I just notice that Pirlo says De Rossi becomes his roommate in Nazionale after Nesta retired from the Azzurri…
